Biography:
Dr. Eduardo de Souza Martins Fernandes, is an esteemed Brazilian surgeon specializing in hepatobiliary surgery, liver transplantation, and abdominal surgical oncology. With a robust educational background, he earned his medical degree from the Faculdade de Medicina de Teresópolis (FESO) in 2001. He then completed his general surgery residency at Rio de Janeiro Adventist Hospital, followed by specialized training in hepatobiliary surgery and transplantation at prestigious institutions such as the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan. Dr. Fernandes further advanced his expertise with a PhD from the Rio de Janeiro State University, focusing on liver transplant techniques.
Currently, Dr. Fernandes holds several key positions. He is the Chief of General Surgery and Transplantation at Rio de Janeiro Adventist Hospital, the Surgical Director of the Liver Transplant Program at DHR Health Transplant Institute in McAllen, Texas, and an Assistant Professor of Surgery at both Rio de Janeiro Federal University and DHR Health. Additionally, he serves as a visiting professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and Surgical Director at Hospital São Francisco de Assis and Hospital São Lucas, both in Rio de Janeiro. Dr. Fernandes has made significant contributions to international medical conferences, delivering lectures on complex liver resections, transplantation, and pancreatic cancer surgery. He is a respected member of several global surgical societies, including the International Hepatopancreatobiliary Association and the American Hepatopancreatobiliary Association.
